EU green-lights Bayer's Jaydess hormone IUS

Tools

European regulators have given the thumbs up to Bayer's Jaydess, a low-dose controlled-release hormonal contraceptive. Jaydess, an IUS (intrauterine system), releases a constant level of levonorgestrel into the uterus, protecting against pregnancy for up to three years with an efficacy of more than 99%. Launches are expected in the second quarter of 2013. PharmaTimes reports that Kemal Malik, head of global development at Bayer HealthCare, said the system is designed for women "who are looking for a reliable, convenient long-term contraceptive option with a very low hormonal dose."
