Texas researchers aim to spur lung growth with nanoparticles

Tools

Researchers at the University of Texas at Arlington and UT Southwestern Medical Center are developing a drug delivery system that uses nanoparticles to bring regenerative drugs into the lungs. The biodegradable nanoparticles encapsulate the drugs and, for patients whose lungs have been partially removed or destroyed by disease, the polymer delivery system is designed to control the release of these drugs to stimulate growth. The project is funded by a $3.4 million National Institutes of Health grant through 2016. More
