Universities are increasingly eyeing drug delivery technology as the next great place on which to focus their research energies. A case in point, as The Birmingham News reports, is the University of Alabama at Birmingham's College of Arts and Sciences, which appointed physicist Yogesh Vohra as its associate dean for interdisciplinary and creative innovation last fall. He held a forum recently to spotlight some new drug delivery variations under development at the school. Among them, according to the piece: One researcher is studying how to turn polymer carriers into intelligent drug delivery systems. Another is using nanodiamonds to steer drugs into cancer cells, and a third wants to weld smart nanoparticles to zero in on cancer cells and then deliver a lethal dose of a drug. Story
